On one hand I can’t believe that it is only hump day and on the other hand I can’t believe how freaking quickly this year is going. Did someone just remind me April is next week? Ah ha. Yep. Next week is the 4th month of the year. Life is travelling at an insane pace and I am only just holding on most weeks. When did life get so fast? Didn’t summer holidays used to go on forever and you were, like, totally bored begging your parents to send you back? My son only said to me the other day “I’m bored”. I told him to enjoy bored because you don’t want time to go this quick. But he will be the same as I was, and the generation before that, and before that who never listened to their parents or believed they knew anything at all for that matter. And then one day, agreed that life moves at a rapid pace. I am quietly itching for this week to be over cause the weekend is so unbelievably exciting, but more about that in a minute.
Featured Blogger of the Week!
This week I actually was really not keen on choosing one featured blogger as there was quite a few posts I really enjoyed reading. There were posts about coping as a mum, bullying with our children, new fitness tips, food ideas and camping ideas. So many different blogs and I really learnt a lot and loved reading them all. I actually have to choose 2 this week because they tied in together. Both these blogs struck me the most as I am currently enjoying watching the series on ABC with Ian Thorpe about Bullying and also off the back of celebrating Harmony Day at school.
Make sure you check out Fi’s Page at Mumma Morrison to see who her favourite was this week also! Both of these blog posts really got me as I am devastated by what some kids go through when they should be happy and enjoying their school life. No one should ever be made to feel like they don’t belong or are different and that there is something wrong with that. I loved how Off the Vine was able to explain how different everyone is off the back of some pool toys. It really is a great example. Please go and check them out.
So what is getting me over the hump this week?
- Start cranking your 1990’s music right now and start dancing round the living room singing at the top of your voice. This will be me on the weekend as I attend a concert full of great Australia artists from the 80’s and 90’s with a bestie. Firstly, we are kid free! A nice break from the mayhem but as always we miss every ounce of them while we are gone. But it is also the change to catch up with a great friend and just hang out, enjoy music, food and I am sure lots of wine and of a course…..a SLEEP IN!!! Plus every meal will be made for us the entire weekend. Should I go on? Probably not. You totally get what I am saying and I am truly sorry if I have made you insanely jealous. Thank you husbands!
- Role Plays. Some nights at dinner time we do a reverse role play game with the kids. They think it is hysterical for my son to be daddy and my daughter to be mummy. We then are the kids. They ask us about our day and we have to answer it being that person. The kids find it particularly funny when my husband and I (the kids) start fighting exactly like they do and with the whiny voices. They love putting us in time out and then of course we act out and won’t accept time out. The point is to make it as accurate as the other person as you an be and the best bit is we all do it so well! It is very funny and we all get a good laugh out of it.
- Aspiration and Inspiration. The last few years have been a huge tumble turn of working out where we as a family want to be and how we see our future. When you have kids it isn’t as easy as just jumping in the combi and heading off for new adventures, there is so much to take into consideration. There are so many more things at play. We have had a few hiccups in our plans but we are still wading through it and working out what we want as a family for our future. It feels like each day as we talk through stuff we get closer to working out what that will be. Life is about trying new things, challenges and not just staying in a rut. We should still be able to have some adventure even after we become parents.
I normally do 4 things but I personally think that this week that is a whole lot of inspiration and excitement to get me over that hump Don’t you think? There is only so much a working mum can take!
I am really enjoying reading so many more blogs than what I did before full of so many wonderful people with different stories and adventures and ideas. Please take the time to try and read some and comment on other people’s. The more we comment and read the better this community becomes. So get commenting and jump on board the link up so I can have a read of yours too!
Happy Hump Day! xx
