Hump Day Hype Link Up #9 – Getting Over the Hump This Week

Hump Day Hype Link Up

Well, this hump day was the start of coming down from a food and wine coma.  Yes, hump day will be the first day that I feel back to normal after a weekend of sheer indulgence.  You see, one of my besties and I decided to take the weekend off.  You heard.  Leave the kids and the husbands and jet off to the countryside to listen to fabulous Aussie icons from the 1980’s play live at a winery, while we spent the day listening to them and indulging in cheese, wine, antipasto and more cheese.  It was perfect.  A fabulous weekend but I have felt the fallout since.  By tomorrow I should feel all back to normal and will try to stop singing Electric Blue while I am at it.  Thank you, daughter, for saying “mummy, just sing quietly or perhaps just sing in your head”.  There you go.

This week my head hurts in all sorts of ways, and not just the hangover and cheeseover if there is such a thing.  My head hurts from so much thinking.  But before I get to that I will go to my favourite blog post from last week.

If there was one thing I loved and still do, it is getting the kids outdoors.  My second child is in her last year before school but with both my kids when I had days off with them it was all about getting out and about and exploring.  I loved taking them places.  These ideas, and so many were some really great ideas and many of them simple things that don’t cost the earth to do!  Some of the best moments my kids have had are playing with the rocks in the stream.

So what is getting me over my hump day, apart from my hangover?Hump Day

  1. Growth and Development.  When my son was in preschool, it wasn’t into drawing.  They had to almost drag him away from cars and trucks to do something creative with a pencil.  As he went to school he started to realise that he quite liked art that they were doing in class and he developed to drawing with one colour.  2 years later his world is drawing and he draws descriptive and colourful pieces.  I have just loved watching this development and how much he has learned and changed over this time.  Like so many things with our kids, we don’t know which way things will go but sometimes it is lovely to look back and reflect on how amazing they are and how much they develop in such a short period of time.  I am so proud of him and his drawings and his creative headspace.
  2. Accomplishment.  Whilst I was suffering my hangover we spent the last day of our trip wandering the quaint little shops where we were.  As soon as I walked into one shop and saw a Build Your Titanic box, I knew I had to get it.  My son absolutely loves the Titanic.  He watches the videos, he draws it and he is fascinated by it.  It was expensive and I deliberated on buying it.  In the end, I thought I would rather spend money on something he will love than just a few trinkets.  When I got home we built it.  It took ages (about 1 1/2 days) but after it was built he told me it was the best present he had ever received.  We built it together and it’s lovely to have done this.  I also can’t believe I was so patient!!!Activities with kids
  3. Change.  This blog started off the back of changing our lives and moving our family, starting something new.  It has been a lengthy and well thought out process and not something we have decided lightly.  It isn’t just about us anymore, we have children to consider and their future too.  Change is scary, especially when you have done what you have for over 10 years.  Everything that is familiar is easy to stay with.  But change can be the best thing you ever do.  Would you regret change or trying something new?  So many questions that unless we do something, we will never know.  We are at the point where we need to make these decisions and stop trying to find the crystal ball that will tell us that everything will be okay.  We will never know that.  We just want to make sure we do what is best for our family.  Have you ever made a life change?  I would love to hear from you!

I hope you are having a fantastic Hump Day!  Come join some other fantastic bloggers and get involved.  Keep on with me because next week I have a lovely offer for something on the blog!  Enjoy the rest of your week peeps! xxx

You are right. A huge life change is scary but sometimes, it is what’s best. I recently have been trying to use more organic or natural products and eating healthier food. I honestly think it is more tedious and pricey than just going with the flow but since I have a son, I too am scared to leave him prematurely. So I go forth and do what I think is best for myself and my family, as all mums I know. xx
